CompactHabit, based in Barcelona, Spain, was founded to address challenges within the traditional construction sector. After years of research, they developed the "eMii®" (Edificación Modular Integral Industrializada or Offsite Integral Modular Building) system, focusing on offsite and industrialized construction of fully finished and equipped volumetric modules. This innovative approach offers improvements in process, product, technology, and business model compared to traditional building methods. These innovations rationalize the construction process, improve quality, avoid cost and timeframe deviations, reduce accident rates, improve working conditions, minimize waste, and generate economies of scale. CompactHabit specializes in concrete and hybrid steel-concrete modules. The eMii system, introduced in 2009, enables the large-scale production of these modules, which are currently used in projects in Spain, France, and Switzerland. The system involves manufacturing large, three-dimensional, four-sided monolithic modules (eMii-C for reinforced concrete and eMii-CS for hybrid steel-concrete). These modules move through an assembly process where components, building services, and materials are added until the module leaves the production facility fully equipped and finished to the customer's specifications. For the eMii-C modules, CompactHabit uses a proprietary formwork that allows for horizontal concreting in two braced stages, resolving issues related to mix placement. The mechanical formwork is adaptable to different lengths, heights, and widths. Their buildings are designed to be relocatable, based on repeating units that can be stacked up to 8-9 floors high with eMii-C modules or higher with eMii-CS modules. CompactHabit's projects range from student dormitories and multi-family dwellings to offices, hotels, schools, and other institutional facilities. The company has obtained the ETA (European Technical Assessment) and CE marking, demonstrating their commitment to quality and compliance.
